The March of Dimes organization is devoted to improving the health of infants by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. This organization is best known for their walks which have dated back to 1970. Since 1981, the premature birth rate has increased approximately 30% or over 500,000 infants per year which translates to a societal economic cost of nearly 26.2 billion dollars per year. Both the private and public health care sectors share this financial burden and each of us need to be supportive of its funding.
